Doris Bruce Odoski of Cochranville, PA passed away suddenly in the early morn of Monday, October 17th at the age of 80. Born Doris Lorraine Rugarber on May 22, 1931 in Trenton, NJ she was the daughter of the late Frank Rugarber and Edith Tiger.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, Edward Odoski Sr. in 2004. Married in the summer of 1983 at their home in Levittown, PA they were admirers of polka dancing and enjoyed their visits together to Atlantic City, NJ. They also spent many years residing in North Huntingdon, PA, just outside of Pittsburgh where their helpful and friendly nature made it even the more easily to grow countless genuine friendships.
Doris spent much of her young adulthood working for the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center as Director of Dining Services and for many years was the President of the Pennsylvania Farm Women Association. The early years of her children recall much of her time volunteering at the Chester County Hospital as well. After her retirement from New Bolton Center, Doris was a Customer Service Representative for Spiegel Catalog.
At the time of her passing, Doris was a member of the Kennett Square Bible Methodist Church and enjoyed spending her Friday evenings playing Bingo with her daughter Karen at the Kennett Area Senior Center. As a founding member she volunteered her time to the Kennett Square Bible Methodist Church's Prayer Shaw Ministry. She also loved to spend "Oldies Gone Wild" weekends in Danville, PA with her "cousins".
Doris is survived by her daughter Kathleen B. Caudill and her husband Eddie of Kennett Square, PA, son James L. Bruce Jr. and his fiancée Connie Im of Foster City, CA, and daughter Karen L. Scherer and her husband Rick of Cochranville, PA. She is also survived by stepson Lawrence Odoski and his wife Irene of Black Mountain, NC, stepdaughter Gloria Brzeskiewkz and her husband Tad of Eagleville, PA, and stepson Edward Odoski Jr. and his wife Lisa of Levittown, PA.
Doris loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren playing cards, assembling puzzles, or even just conversing. She is survived by 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren with 1 more expected in April 2012.
Doris was loved by many and will by missed dearly by all. You are invited to visit with family and friends from 9:15 to 10:00 on Saturday morning, October 22, 2011 at Kennett Square Bible Methodist Church, 500 East Cypress Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. Her memorial service will follow at 10:00. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kennett Area Senior Center at 427 South Walnut Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348
