Lois Williams ("Bea") Sutton, age 89, died of pneumonia on Friday, October 7th at the Jennersville Regional Hospital. She is survived by her husband Ernest S. Sutton of Jenner's Pond Retirement Community in West Grove, PA, where they had been residents since 1997, having lived previously in Newark, DE and Landenberg, PA.
Lois Sutton was born on August 30, 1922 in Elkton, MD, the daughter of Elisabeth
Bulkley Smith Williams and Wallace Williams, Sr. of Brantwood Farms. She and her
sister Corrine Trippetti and her brother Wallace ("Spike") Williams, both of whom
predeceased her, grew up in Elkton and she then attended Friends School in Baltimore and Stratford College in Danville, VA. In addition to being a homemaker all her adult life, she also worked as an Activities Director at the Episcopal Church
Home in Hockessin, DE. She was also active in civic affairs and served on several boards, including the board of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Newark, DE.
Many will remember with admiration her performances in community theatre productions, as she worked for over fifty years with Chapel Street Players (formerly the University Drama Group), Wilmington Drama League, Stone Barn Theatre, and Milburn Stone Theater in Northeast, MD. Her favorite role was Amanda, the mother in Tennesee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie."
Lois Sutton is also survived by her three children, H. Gibbons Young, Jr. of Newark, DE and Callawassee Island, SC, Elisabeth Young-Bruehl of Toronto, and Lois Young-Southard of Newark, DE. and her three step children, Jane Dennis-Smith of Ithaca, NY, Douglas S. Sutton of San Francisco, CA, and Andrea Sutton of Berthoud, CO, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2PM Saturday October 22, 2011 at the Alison Theatre of Jenners Pond, 2000 Greenbriar Lane West Grove PA 19390. Visiting will begin at 1PM. The family welcomes all those who would like to join them in remembering Bea Sutton, whose generosity of spirit and gracious good will and wisdom touched so many. Burial at the Head of Christiana Cemetery will be private. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Benevolent Care Fund of Jenner's Pond, 2000 Greenbriar Lane, West Grove, PA 19390 or the Chapel Street Players, 27 North Chapel St., Newark, DE 19711.
