Robert Taft Hennes of Kennett Square, PA passed away on February 16, 2012. He was 81.
He was born in Jamestown NY to Lucille Kane Hennes and Theodore Preston Hennes. Bob graduated with honors from Stevens Institute Prep School in Hoboken, NJ. He received a B.A. degree from Harvard University in 1951 and an M.B.A. degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1952.
Bob began his career with the Lummus Company, a worldwide engineering and construction firm. He later moved to the advertising field, rising to become Executive Vice President and a director for Conahay & Lyon, specializing in financial services and packaged goods advertising. In 1970, with partner Bob Cox, he founded and was Chairman of Hennes & Cox, Inc., a management consulting firm. He subsequently worked for Spencer Stuart, a leading executive search firm, as Partner Director in the New York office, until his retirement.
Bob and his wife, G. Margaret Hennes shared 40 years of marriage living in Manhattan until moving to Kennett Square in 1986. They greatly enjoyed traveling and frequently stayed in Ireland, where they visited with his wife's family. Bob was a former member of the Kennett Square Golf and Country Club and Longwood Rotary Club, and a current member of the Kennett Koffee Klatch and the Episcopal Church of the Advent.
In addition to his wife Margaret, Bob is survived by his first wife Frances Gray of Rye, NY and their children, Robert T. Hennes, Jr. and his wife Jane of Albany, NY, Duncan P. Hennes and his wife Laura of Rye, NY, and Theodore P. Hennes, II and his wife Gigi of Irvington, NY. Bob is also survived by his six grandchildren; William H. Hennes, Robert T. Hennes, III, Duncan P. Hennes, Jr., Andrew W. Hennes, Theodore P. Hennes, III and Katelyn Hennes.
You are invited to visit with Robert's family from 10-11AM Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 401 North Union St. Kennett Square, PA 19348. His memorial service will follow at 11AM. Interment will be held privately in Union Hill Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Cancer Program at The Chester County Hospital, 701 E. Marshall Street, West Chester, Pa 19380 or to The Neighborhood Hospice Program of Neighborhood Health Agencies at the same address.
